A lesson from 26.2 miles 🏃♀️
Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out

Achieve the life you want by Winning the Week

Welcome!
I ran the Valencia Marathon Today 🏃♀️
It was my ‘third time lucky’ marathon. 🍀
The first one was cancelled in Covid, the second cancelled earlier this year as Ralph (my dog, best friend and confidante) was dangerously ill the day before and I cancelled my flights.
SO THIS ONE!
Was up there as something I REALLY wanted to achieve before the end of 2024.
It was amazing and difficult all at the same time.
And mile 20 is exactly what they say it is.
‘Like hitting a wall’
But that wasn’t what most difficult at all…
Lets dig in x
Water and banana at the ready 👇️

"Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out."
The hardest thing about running that marathon today was not ‘hitting the wall’
It wasn’t thinking about how I was going to run another 10k when I hit mile 20 😅 (though it does cross your mind once or twice 🤣 )
It wasn’t trying to consume all of the calories you need for the run whilst also running.
Having another sachet of blackcurrant syrup is definitely the last thing you fancy. 🤮
The hardest thing!
Was all of the long runs that led up to today.
The 14,18, 22 mile runs that I did on a Sunday leading up to getting me across the line..
Running around Manchester.
No crowds cheering.
No one shouting ‘Vamos Emma!’
Just getting it done.
In order to make today much, much easier.
And cross the finish line.
And it’s the same for your 2025 Goals:
Preparation: A marathon doesn’t start at the starting line—it starts weeks or months earlier.
Your week and your goals are the same.
Action: Spend time planning your top 1,2 or 3 priorities and schedule the non-negotiables in for this week. Now.Recognise the Small Wins: Every water station and every completed mile kept me motivated today.
I had a plan with Joe on where I’d see him on the route.
That gave me a target and motivation to aim towards and know that there was a reward at the end of the next 5 miles for me!
Action: Recognize and celebrate the little things you achieve each day.If you haven’t journalled before I highly recommend it and one of the easiest ways to start is:
Writing down 3 good things that happened at the end of each day.
By the time Friday comes around you’ll have 21 things that went well over the past week to reflect on and propel you in to smashing the next week. 💥Overcome Challenges: When I hit the infamous ‘wall’ at mile 20, I had to dig deep. Midweek slumps are no different—how you respond to the tough moments defines your progress.
If you feel yourself drifting off course or thinking that the week is over and you may as well wait till next Monday to start again…..
Action: We all have bad days - don’t let it turn into a bad week.
Draw a line at the end of that day. Do something you enjoy that evening. Treat yourself well. Get good sleep.
Start again the next day like it’s the start of a new year.
Have one clear thing to get done that day.
Write down 3 things that went well at the end of the day.And start again tomorrow.
Remember - lots of small steps wins the race.Focus on the Next Step: During the race, I didn’t think about mile 26 when I was on mile 5.
Winning the week is about focusing on the next most important task, not everything all at once.
It will lead you to where you want to go.Action: I know you have a lot to do.
But…
Decide which project or goal is most important to you.
Break that down into all of the small steps and to-do’s.
Plan the time in your week to work on it.
Tick those steps off one by one.
Get that project done - move on to the next.
Go Win The Week
