Do You Say This? 🤐

Achieve the life you want by Winning the Week

Welcome!

Last week a friend of mine was talking about a member of his team.

When I say talking. I mean ranting.

He’d handed over a task to her.

A horrid sounding kind of task that involved a spreadsheet, entering lots of numbers and a beady eye on attention to detail.

It hadn’t gone well on the first attempt and my friend was waxing on about how he should never have bothered getting help on it.

Even though he hated the task.

And he uttered the words every business owner knows so well….

GOD IT’S JUST QUICKER TO DO IT MYSELF

Possibly one of the worst phrases to saddle yourself with.

So lets dig in x

Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should

Sherrilyn Kenyon

Just because you can do something.

Doesn’t mean you should do something.

Acting on this daily is one of the most impactful ways to Focus on The Fun Stuff.

In my opinion.

And as business owners we know we can get most stuff done.

We’ve learned all the roles of the business.

We wear all the hats.

We know we’re not a 10/10 in them all.

But we GSD.

So it can be hard to get out of that role.

Just getting everything done.

Backing ourselves to sort it out and get it over the line.

It’s needed in the first phase of our business.

But if we really want to focus on the fun stuff in the business.

It’s time to level up.

To Jedi Mastery level.

True mastery is coaching and teaching those supporting you to do the task:

  • As good as you

Or the biggy…

  • BETTER THAN YOU

And when I challenged my friend about this it turns out he’d expected everything done perfectly first time.

He hadn’t spent a moment to see why there had been a problem.

He hadn’t let any questions get asked.

He hadn’t given any feedback either. He’d just swiped the task back in some kind of save the day gesture which only serves to make his days much less effective.

It was knee-jerk management.

And thats not how you win the week.

So the next time you think It’s quicker to do it myself here’s your 7 step mini guide:

  1. It is definitely not quicker to do it yourself - its’ quicker if you leverage your time by spending a little more time at the beginning to coach and guide

  2. Create a simple bullet point list or use Loom to record how to do the thing and Looms new Ai feature means that it will create that bullet point list for you!

  3. Make sure there is a one line sentence to describe the purpose of the task.

  4. Make it really, really clear to the person supporting you that no question is a stupid question!

  5. After the first attempt - make sure you de-brief together on any steps that didnt go quite right, whats missing?, what needed explaining?

  6. If something doesn’t go quite right ask - how can I help you with this?

  7. Dont say - It’s quicker to do it myself ever.

    And Repeat with every task.

The recipe for getting more off your plate than ever before whilst being a thoughtful leader 😍

Become world class not in doing it all but in delegating as much as possible every day.

And that.

Is how we Win The Week

On Focus on the Fun Stuff this week 🎧️

This week on Focus on the Fun Stuff, I open up about a BIG mistake I’ve made this year at Mi PA

I say big, it certainly seemed insignificant at the time.

But this one insignificant action has resulted in a dip over the last six months:

·      MiPA’s growth has slowed down

·      The team’s less together

·      I was enjoying the journey less

·      And our super-hot focus on progress has gone a bit fuzzy…

Thankfully the thing I was a missing is simple one, and 2025’s looking rosier, so I’ve explained exactly what happened and how to solve it in my latest podcast episode.

It’s a shorty but a goody.

P.S. The little fella is Albert Acorn - I’m the biggest Jellycat Fan on Planet Earth 🌎️

Go Win The Week.

Get one thing off your list

And guide that person supporting you to be the best they can be at it

It’ll help you Win The Week

I’m cheering you on
