Gifting 🎁

Achieve the life you want by Winning the Week

I have a friend who does two things every single day.

No 1. Every evening she writes down everything on her mind β€” everything that needs doing, sorting out or finishing.

No 2. In the morning she looks at the list and β€˜gifts’ the things she doesn't want to do, have to do, or like to do.

She β€˜gifts’ them to her Executive Assistant.

And I've been thinking about that word ever since she said it.

Gifting.

Not delegating. Not offloading. Not dumping.

Gifting.

It’s so bloody good.

Because when you reframe it that way - I think it makes it a million times easier to focus on what you do best.

Let's dig in πŸš€

The perfect trifecta - gifting tasks, drinking fizz and cuddling my doggo πŸ₯‚πŸΆ

I'll be honest with you.

I resisted letting go of things in my business for years.

I started Mi PA in 2008.

And for almost a decade I told myself the same story most business owners tell themselves.

It's quicker to do it myself.
I'll have to teach them how to do it.
Nobody will do it as well as I do. πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«

And then in 2017 I sat in a mastermind room with my mentor Nigel Botterill and got a very strong word in my ear.

β€˜Emma. You are not doing the thing you tell everyone else to do’

He was right.

The first thing I gifted? My emails.

I won't lie. It is uncomfortable at the very start.

My inbox felt personal to me.

And I am, let's say, particular about how I communicate. πŸ˜„

It felt exposing.

It felt like giving someone the keys to my house.

But I did it anyway.

And now? I cannot imagine ever going back.

Most recently I gifted our weekly online shop. πŸ˜„

Yes. Really.

Small task.

Mighty impact.

The small things compound.

I can’t believe I ever did it myself now.

It used to take me an hour every week.

I update a shared apple note shopping list.

Now I get it done for me.

Here's the thing about β€˜gifting’ tasks.

The thing you hate doing.

The thing that drains your energy, sits at the bottom of your to do list for three weeks, or makes you feel vaguely guilty every time you scroll past it?

That is someone else's ABSOLUTE favourite thing to work through.

Your inbox admin is someone's idea of a satisfying morning.

Your scheduling is someone's happy place.

Your expenses are someone's version of a puzzle they love to solve.

When we start seeing delegation as a gift rather than a chore.

Well, it removes all of the resistance.

No more:

  • It's quicker to do it myself

  • God I'll have to write a process for this

  • They won't do it as well as me

Because you're not offloading.

You're gifting.

And gifts are a good thing.

So here's your Win the Week challenge:

Tonight, before you go to sleep - grab a notebook.

I keep mine at the side of the bed for exactly this reason.

Write down everything that's on your mind before Monday.

Everything that needs doing, sorting, finishing or deciding.

Then in the morning, look at that list with fresh eyes.

And ask yourself honestly:

Which of these could I gift?

Not everything will be giftable.

Some things only you can do.

But I promise you more things are β€˜giftable’ than you think.

Not sure where to start with what to gift?

Our Buy Back Your Time Assessment will show you exactly where your hours are going and what you could be handing off.

Always cheering you on.

Focus on the Fun Stuff πŸŽ™οΈ

On the latest episode of Focus on the Fun Stuff I sat down with Sacha Lord.

Founder of Parklife Festival and The Warehouse Project, Sunday Times bestselling author and one of the most influential figures in UK hospitality and events.

And it all started with selling leather jackets on a market stall.

This is one of the most honest conversations I've had on the podcast. We talk about anxiety, self belief, pushing through when everyone tells you to play it safe and knowing when it's time to let go.

If you've ever doubted yourself or wondered whether now is the right time - this one's for you!
