Welcome
A quick story of being told off. (which I’m very glad about)
I was in a room with Nigel Botterill on Tuesday.
He’s been my mentor since 2014, and has had a profound effect on me, my mindset and my business.
I was giving an update on what had happened since our last meeting in January.
And I quickly dived into everything EXCEPT our key numbers.
So he probed a bit further.
I started talking about our lead flow into one part of the business and that it wasn’t hitting target.
He asked me how much I was spending on ads. (It had been part of the plan back in January)
And with maximum cringe I said ‘nothing’.
Nigel: 😐🫠😤
Lets dig in 🚀
"Emma, I believed you when you told me the plan in January - so why aren't you doing the things?"
We’re Nigels actual words.
In the following 30 minutes I probably used the word ‘procrastinate’ 10 times.
Have you ever been in a situation where the one thing you need to do is the actual thing you’re not doing?
That was me sat in front of Nigel.

A very apt reminder every time you walk into Nigels boardroom 🥲
Underneath it all I realised it came down to one thing: I didn’t feel like I knew what I was doing
and when you don't know what you're doing, your brain tries to protect you - from feeling foolish, not good enough, from failing.
That’s its job.
The science tells us that every time you procrastinate you strengthen the neural pathways in your brain which favour avoidance to protect you from the emotion you might feel when you make the decision.
You’re literally wiring yourself to procrastinate even more.
That's exactly what I was doing.
Strengthening the wrong pathway, every single week I didn’t start.
And sometimes we all just need that little ‘push’ from someone to say, "Emma, just do the thing."
So before you close this email what's your thing?
The one you've been circling.
The one that someone believed you were going to do.
Making the wrong decision is better than no decision - at least you're learning each time. With no decision you're just stagnant.
This week, do one small part of it.
Not all of it.
Just one hour a day.
Thats exactly what I’ll be doing.
Implementing, learning and refining paid ads.
The thing I’ve been avoiding since January.
"You could be good today. Instead, you choose tomorrow."

Always cheering you on.

Ai Tool of the Week 🤖
Long term Win the Week fans will remember Ai Tool of the week and it is back and here to stay 🎉
This week I want to tell you about Wispr Flow https://wisprflow.ai/
A voice to text AI tool that has genuinely changed how fast I write. You speak, it types - but the clever bit is it polishes as it goes. No robotic transcription. Just clean, accurate writing appearing in whatever app you're already working in.
No integrations. No faff. It just works.
I've been using it on my laptop and phone and it's made my writing so much faster.
Find it here and try it for free - I hope you love it as much as me!
P.S. 🎙️ If this email resonated, I think you’ll love this week’s podcast too. I'm talking about the invisible mental load every business owner carries - the endless decisions and responsibilities that live in your head long after the working day ends. Turns out the biggest thing holding us back isn't time at all. Have a listen here 🎧
