Before last week even started….

The likelihood is you'd already decided how it was going to go.

Maybe you were dreading it.

A difficult conversation coming?

A deadline looming?

A diary giving you anxiety?

Or maybe you were riding high?

Certain it was going to be the week everything clicked.

Either way, you'd already made up your mind.

And the moment you did that, you started shaping the outcome before a single thing had even happened.

This happened to me last week too….

I travelled to a mastermind group on Tuesday in sunny Essex. (two trains, a tube and a taxi in case your interested)

Looking forward to an M&S picky tea here in the Premier Inn 😅

We got onto the topic of pricing.

I was talking about our Executive Assistant support packages.

I was rambling on to the table about our positioning in the marketplace.

I was telling everyone how at the equivalent of £45 per hour, I know we sit at the premium end of the market.

Our £997 Pro package gives our clients 20–25 hours of high-level EA support, and I was doing the usual arguments in my head.

Some people will wince at that. Some will push back.

A woman sitting next to me looked up and said:

"Wow really? I think that's really cheap."

Me: 😮

She went on to explain that her EA had left the business two weeks ago.

To replace her through traditional hiring? It’s a Minimum £45k salary.

And all she actually needs is roughly an hour or two a day of high-level EA support.

"So honestly, I think your pricing is a bargain."

I had to laugh.

Because I'd sat there without saying a word to her, without asking a single question and completely assumed what she was thinking.

I'd decided her reaction before she'd had one.

I was so busy defending a position in my own head that I nearly talked myself out of something she hadn't even objected to.

And yes there are people who will look at our pricing and think it's too much.

That's fine. They're not our customer. But assuming everyone thinks that?

Assuming I already know what's in someone else's head before they've opened their mouth?

That's not intuition. That's expecting the worst.

The same thing happens every Sunday night.

You look at the week ahead and your brain fills in the gaps.

This is going to be brutal.
That meeting will go badly.
There's no way I'll get everything done. 

Or the flip side - this is the week it all comes together.

Assumption is a week-killer.

It's also completely invisible, because it feels like logic.

The lens you look through is everything.

Not the week itself. Not the diary, the deadlines, the difficult people. The lens.

If you walk into this week already certain of how it's going to feel, you'll filter out every piece of evidence that contradicts you and lock onto everything that confirms it.

That's just how brains work.

But if you walk in genuinely open not naively optimistic, not braced for disaster, just open you give yourself a fighting chance to actually see what's there.

The unexpected win.
The conversation that surprises you.
The hour that opens up.
The person who doesn't react the way you predicted.

Winning the week doesn't start with your to-do list.

It starts with your perspective.

Check your assumptions about the week, about the people in it, about what's possible.

Then set them down.

Let the week show you what it actually is.
