Focus on the Fun Stuff 🎙️ - ‘Solving marketing overwhelm’
Welcome!
As I write this, I’m in Dubai. 🇦🇪
Hence the 24 hour delay in this landing in your inbox.
No I’m not moving there as is the current trend 🤣
I’m away on a hen do for my best friend Caroline. ☀️🥂
Who was also - fun fact - my first ever team member at Mi PA!

I’m actually off. Properly.
Which feels… wonderful.
*I am writing this. I know. But I chose to. I enjoy it. 😁
Because if you run a business, you’ll know how easy it is to slip into always-on mode.
Even when you’re in a different timezone with a cocktail in hand.
The need to check emails.
Check messages.
Check in on projects.
And last Friday I did do the very quickest email perusal.
I forwarded an email that had found its way in front of me
My Ops Manager Matt replied to the email I’d sent him with this:
“Enjoy your hols – everything can wait until Tuesday. You coming back refreshed is 100% the best thing for the business.”
That line stuck with me.
Because he’s absolutely right.
Wise words Matt.
We don’t just win the week by working harder.
We win it by protecting the energy we bring to it.
This week’s email is about exactly that.
So lets dig in x
“Take rest. A field that has rested gives a beautiful crop.”
Our calendars need white space as much as it needs to-dos.
Our weeks need to be planned so that we look forward to them.
The right balance of time to be productive and time to think.
So this week I have a strategy to help you get the most out of your next trip.
Your next booked day off.
So that it actually turns out to be an actual holiday.
And not a day of checking all the apps…
1. The Pre-Holiday Sprint
Step 1. You know how you get more done the day before a holiday?
Well we’re going to lock a 2-hour session in your calendar the day before you leave.
And your going to use it to:
Hand over anything outstanding
Set your out-of-office
Tie up loose ends that would keep you mentally checked in
Make team members, customers, suppliers aware that your off.
Remember in advance is an explanation - in arrears is an excuse 😉
📩 2. The ‘No Sneaky Work’ Commitment
Let your team know when you're offline—and stick to it.
You need to lead from the front.
You’d want your team to switch off and re-charge.
You need to show them that it’s important for you too.
Want to go the extra mile?
Delete Slack and email apps from your phone. Make it as difficult as possible to check the things.
🛬 3. Your Re-Entry Buffer
Pre-planning your calendar is my favourite thing to do.
It means that you’re in control of how you spend your time.
Block out the first 90 mins when you’re back. Give yourself space to:
Catch up without panic
Reset your energy
Set intentions for your return week
🧠 4. Post-Holiday Debrief
Instead of diving back into chaos, spend 20 mins asking these 3 questions:
What gave me the most energy while I was away?
What would it look like to bring more of that into my everyday?
What didn’t go well while I was away that I can solve? What is my plan to solve that.
Remember: recovery is part of the work.
You’re not a machine.
You’re the visionary of your business.
Your energy drives everything.
If you have ten minutes now to make your next holiday the most relaxing on yet….:
✅ Look at your next holiday in the calendar
✅ Plan your pre-holiday handover now (even if it’s weeks away)
✅ Block white space the day you return
Let rest be your secret productivity strategy.
I am ALWAYS cheering you on.
To take more breaks and win the week

Ever stare at a task and think, “I have no idea where to start”?
Same.
Meet Goblin.tools — a surprisingly magical little AI app that turns overwhelming tasks into bite-sized steps.
🎯 Paste in something like:
“Organise the company retreat.”
And it’ll break it down into steps like:
Set a budget
Choose a date range
Research locations
Ask team for preferences
🧠 Bonus: You can even adjust how detailed you want the steps to be.
Perfect for when your brain’s in holiday-mode (I’ll be using it next week 😅 ) —or just needs a jumpstart.
Try it here → Goblin.tools
Happy unwinding—and happy doing less, better.
On Focus on the Fun Stuff this week 🎙️
This week’s conversation for Focus on the Fun Stuff had me fascinated.
I reckon we all get overwhelmed by our marketing (or lack of…) sometimes.
Where should we be focusing? Will that other business’s strategy bring us the same results?
Is this activity we’ve been doing for years just a COMPLETE waste of time?
How can I create a TikTok that goes viral?!?! 😬😬🤪
Argh. It’s a lot.
So if you ever feel confused, uninspired, or just pretty despondent when it comes to marketing your business (but you wouldn’t mind getting some more leads in), make sure you give Paul Fernandez’s episode a listen HERE.
